Smart Nine Assists the WBHO Site Team with Bruce Highway Works
Smart Nine is currently in sunny Rockhampton, working with WBHO Infrastructure’s team on their Bruce Highway South Ulam and Gentle Annie Road Intersection Upgrade Project.
This is a $2.8 million project that will see the widening and realignment of two intersections along the Bruce Highway between Rockhampton and Gladstone. Protected turning lanes will be built at the two intersections, separating turning vehicles from through traffic. New intersection lighting for improved visibility at night will be installed, and resurfacing of the Bruce Highway will take place. Included in this is the construction of a 300m realigned section of South Ulam Road, connecting to the Bruce Highway.
Some of the works activities include:
- Cutting and filling with general fill;
- In-situ stabilisation of type 2.3 materials with 2% cement (sub base);
- Type 2.1 unbound pavement layer (base);
- 16mm C170 Primerseal and 10mm PMB Seal (bitumen surfacing);
- AC14H Asphalt (50mm layer at intersections);
- Demolition, installation and extension of reinforced concrete pipe and box culverts;
- Removal and installation of new intersection lighting;
- Linemarking and landscaping.
Providing valuable, on site engineering support to the WBHO team, Smart Nine is providing the Contractor’s Quality Representatives. (CQR). The CQR is responsible for the documentation of all works and ensuring that the works meet the quality requirements of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Specifications.
The CQR’s day to day responsibilities on site include:
- Opening and closing of lots for each section of work, involving the compilation of documents such as test reports, observations, survey conformance reports, diagrams etc.;
- Inspecting and supervising works to ensure they meet the requirements of the Specification;
- Sending test requests for each lot and liaising with Soil Technicians on Site;
- Communicating with the Surveyor for pick-up points for the Survey Conformance Report and calculate areas/volumes of the lots;
- Working with the Project Manager to deliver the weekly Progress Reports and the Monthly Progress Claims;
- Identifying and rectifying any Non-Conformance aspects of work which do not meet TMR Specifications.
