Treatment Systems in Coastal Catchments Forum gets Thumbs Up
It was an absolute pleasure to attend the Treatment Systems in Coastal Catchments Forum in Brisbane today, and wonderful to see so many companies keen to get involved and contribute in improving the condition of our reef and waterways.
The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP) in conjunction with the Queensland Wetlands Program and the Office of the Great Barrier Reef, hosted the forum on Treatment Systems in Coastal Catchments, where they provided an overview of innovative new approaches to treatment systems, including:
- Constructed Wetlands;
- Floating Wetlands;
- Bioreactors;
- Algae Treatment; and similar technologies.
This technology has the potential to reduce nutrients and pesticides from diffuse rural sources in the coastal catchments of Queensland. DEHP also detailed how various treatments can be used to achieve water quality improvements.
We heard from leading innovators in the industry on effective treatment technologies and were able to exchange information with a broad range of natural resource management practitioners, local government, agricultural representatives and policy makers from across Queensland, who have an interest in implementing these strategies.
Many thanks to the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection for providing such a valuable forum.
